 Jazz

Jazz

is an anthology of

melodic orgasms

in which

the soul sings what

the psyche

can’t pre-compose.

Vivaldi is the seasons.

Beethoven is the moonlight.

But Jazz

is Billie

Cootie

Ella

And Louis

In a smoke-draped hall,

Feeling the seasons,

Living in the moonlight and

Singing their

Throbbing,

Tender,

Unrefined

Passion and pain.

The Poem inside Me

Sometimes there is a poem

Trapped inside me.

It pounds on my sternum

And howls in my stomach

In an attempt to get to

The world.

I don’t know how

To help it,

So I leave cookies out

As if Santa were coming

And sleep until morning.

When the sun rises,

The poem perches on my desk

Eating thin mints

And waiting for

Me to say

Good morning.

[music |We've moved on to the Will and Grace theme.]

A Quiz to Waste My Time and Yours
A THEATRE QUIZ

LAST SHOW YOU ADDED TO YOUR RESUME:
Beyond Sondheim--The Musical Theatre Revue

LAST SHOW YOU AUDITIONED FOR:
Beyond Sondheim

DID YOU GET INTO IT:
Yeah

LAST SONG YOU USED AT AN AUDITION:
"If I Didn't Believe in You"

FAVORITE PLAY:
Can't decide.

FAVORITE MUSICAL:
Last Five Years

NAME A THEATRE SUPERSTITION:
This is a stupid question, but I would have to say that I hate it when people worship satan on opening night.
Surely not good for the show...right?

LAST PART YOU PLAYED IN A SHOW:
Black/Coneybear/Marvin/Ensemble

YOUR GOAL IN SHOW BUSINESS:
Hmmm. Superstar. That'll do.

FAVORITE DIRECTOR:
So many..... (I'm sure this quiz is thrilling to read)

WHAT WAS YOUR VERY FIRST SHOW:
I think I banged on a drum while we sang little mermaid songs in preschool....but In middle school I was in Romeo and Juliet.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD A DANCE SOLO:
I am pretty sure I have at one point. Though everyone involved would rather not relive it.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD A SINGING SOLO:
Many a time. :)

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN THE LAST PERSON TO TAKE A BOW:
Yes.

NAME A SHOW YOU'VE DONE MORE THAN TWO TIMES:
I have done Blithe Spirit twice, but haven't done any more than two times.

HAVE YOU BEEN TO NEW YORK:
Love it there!!

HAVE YOU BEEN TO LA:
Yes I have.

SCARIEST PART OF AN AUDITION:
The whole damn thing!

BEST PART OF AN AUDITION:
When you feel yourself make a connection with someone there.

NAME A SHOW YOU WOULD NEVER DO (AGAIN):
I am not entirely sure I would ever do Greasepaint again.... Though I had fun doing it.

NAME A SHOW YOU COULD DO FOR YEARS:
Black Comedy! Or the Revue that I was just in.

NAME A SHOW YOU WOULD LOVE TO DO BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN IN:
Oh my goodness I could write a book of them.....

NAME A PERSON YOU'D LIKE TO WORK WITH AGAIN:
Everyone I've worked with so far at UCI.

WHAT ARE YOU AUDITIONING FOR NEXT:
Probably the Season Auditions at UCI

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PERFORMING:
6 years

DO YOU CARRY YOUR HEADSHOTS AROUND WITH YOU:
I don't have any!

DO YOU KEEP IN TOUCH WITH PAST CAST MEMBERS:
Always.

ON A SCALE OF 1-10 HOW IMPORTANT IS GETTING PAID:
It totally depends on the project. It isn't terribly important to me but if someone else in the production is getting paid, and I'm not, then we might have a problem.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE:
I try to make each one as memorable as I can.

WHAT'S SOMETHING EMBARRASSING OR UNEXPECTED THAT HAPPENED TO YOU WHILE ON STAGE:
In Bay Boy, Katie jumped at me in the courtroom scene and I was supposed to catch her. One night she jumped too high and knocked me on my back. But she and I improvised our way out of it.

WHO IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PERSON (ON STAGE OR OFF) THAT YOU HAVE EVER WORKED WITH:
I would have to say a director who had no idea what she was getting into when adding piano to a classic play that usually doesn't include that feature.

EVER BEEN NAKED ON STAGE?:
every friday night!!!! DAMMMMMNNN.
No.

WHO OR WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST INSPIRATION OR INFLUENCE?
So many. I really admire Jason Robert Brown, and Stephen Sondheim.
I love Bernandette Peters and Norbert Leo Butz.
I could list them all night long and you would all (if anyone is reading this) be very very bored.

IF YOU COULD BE A RICH FAMOUS PORN STAR OR A STRUGGLING THEATRE ACTOR WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
Well, I lived the life of a pornstar, and there is a reason that I gave it all up to be a struggling theatre student....so I don't think I really need to answer this question.

BEST PROFESSIONAL SHOW(S) YOU'VE SEEN:
The Last Five Years, Rent, and Big River

BEST COLLEGE SHOW(S) YOU'VE SEEN:
Orpheus Descending, Seven Guitars.

BEST HIGH SCHOOL SHOW(S) YOU'VE SEEN:
Crazy For You

ONSTAGE, HAVE YOU EVER...

a) Been killed? No

b) Been drunk / stoned? I was quite tipsy in Blithe Spirit.

c) Played someone half your age? I was Schroeder in Charlie Brown, I was a homeless British child in Greasepaint. And a deaf Who Child in Seussical.

d) Played someone twice your age? Black Comedy, Blithe Spirit, Seussical, Beyond Sondheim, Out of the Frying Pan.....

e) Cried? The Seagull

f) Fired a gun? No, though I did talk about having one in Bat Boy.

g) Driven a car? No.

h) Been drenched? With sweat, yes. Otherwise, no.

i) Been in a dream sequence? In greasepaint, we were some kind of weird dragon or something like that.

j) Been kissed? Yes! I was kissed in As You Like It and something else, but I don't remember.

IF YOU WERE ON BROADWAY RIGHT NOW, WHAT SHOW WOULD YOU WANT TO BE IN AND WHAT ROLE WOULD YOU PLAY?
Of the current pick on broadway? WEll, I don't think they would let me be Sophia in the Color Purple....but I would love to be in Spelling Bee, or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, or The Producers, or Hairspray.....

[music |The Friends Theme over and over and over]

So I have bronchitis.
It is a blast!

So much fun that I actually just finished watching the entire first season of Friends on DVD.
Then I took the trivia quiz and got all the questions right.

Then the TV Screen read:

Congratulations!
You truly are a good friend!
Join us for a latte and scone.

How kind of them....
Although I must admit they haven't called.
I got tired of waiting and ate a muffin and a cup of tea.
Bastards.

In all seriousness....The electricity in our apartment was not working correctly so Gregorio was here most of the day fixing it while I whined around the apartment. I told him, not to mind me, that I was on drugs and such....I'm not sure he understood me fully.

Stole this from Robyn's (Love her!) livejournal......

Protect the sanctity of marriage . . . Food for thought.

Ronald Reagan - divorced the mother of two of his children to marry Nancy Reagan, who bore him a daughter only 7 months after the marriage.

Bob Dole - divorced the mother of his child, who had nursed him through the long recovery from his war wounds.

Newt Gingrich - divorced his wife who was dying of cancer.

Dick Armey - House Majority Leader - divorced

Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas - divorced

Gov. John Engler of Michigan - divorced

Gov. Pete Wilson of California - divorced

George Will - divorced

Sen. Lauch Faircloth - divorced

Rush Limbaugh - Rush and his current wife Marta have six marriages and four divorces between them.

Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia - Barr, not yet 50 years old, has been married three times. Barr had the audacity to author and push the "Defense of Marriage Act." The current joke making the rounds on Capitol Hill is "Bob Barr...WHICH marriage are you defending?!?

Sen. Alfonse D'Amato of New York - divorced

Sen. John Warner of Virginia - divorced (once married to Liz Taylor.)

Gov. George Allen of Virginia - divorced

Henry Kissinger - divorced

Rep. Helen Chenoweth of Idaho - divorced

Sen. John McCain of Arizonia - divorced

Rep. John Kasich of Ohio - divorced

Rep. Susan Molinari of New York - Republican National Convention Keynote Speaker - divorced

So ... homosexuals are going to destroy the institution of marriage? Wait a minute, it seems the right wing "Christian" Heterosexual Republicans are doing a fine job without anyone's help!

If you agree, like I do, that hypocricy and bigotry must end, repost this. Perhaps this will open some eyes!

So, in the true fashion of procrastination, I have a term paper that is due tomorrow morning, and I haven't started it yet and I don't even know what I am going to write about.

So, I have been learning very interesting things on the internet instead.

I give you.....

Carol Channing

So....Did you know that she is 1/4 Black?
Her father was half black, but light skinned and kept his race a secret, passing off as a white man for the majority of his life.

So, Carol Channing is a soul sista. Basically she is Aretha Franklin. That's mah homegirl.
I think she is Fantasia's mom, and she is obviously cousins with Whitney, Mariah and Dionne.

And by the way, in San Francisco (where she grew up) February 25, is Carol Channing Day.

That is all.

TONY NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED!!!

The Drowsy Chaperone and The Color Purple lead the Pack with 13 and 11 nominations respectively.

LaChanze and Sutton are both up against Chita, Patti and Kelly O'Hara. Hmmm. That's stiff competition!!!

I cannot wait until June 11th when the awards will go down. The host has not yet been announced....hmmm. I wonder who it will be. One thing that will be interesting will be seeing Oprah at the Tonys. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet. But I think I like it.

the complete list can be found here!

step 1: listen to all your songs on random
step 2: post the first line from the first 20 songs
step 3: let everyone you know guess and post what song and artist the lines come from.
step 4: cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly
step 5: looking them up on google is cheating

[mood |stressedstressed]
[music |Mary J. Blige]

Somethings in life are not meant to be.
I love broadway.
I love musical theatre.
And I love Earth, Wind and Fire.
But I just read what Hot Feet (the new Earth, Wind and Fire Musical) is about, and I just ask God the simple question. Why?

From broadway.com:

Hot Feet tells the Faustian tale of a beautiful young dancer, Kalimba (Nixon), whose life's dream is to be a Broadway dancer. Kalimba is cajoled to dance with a pair of magical and enchanted red shoes, and when she puts them on, they begin to take control of the talented dancer's fate. The show features a book by Heru Ptah (best known for writing the book A Hip-Hop Story). Earth, Wind and Fire founder Maurice White has written original music and lyrics for Hot Feet, and the show will also feature the group's classic hits, including "Shining Star," "September," "Boogie Wonderland" and "After the Love Has Gone."

I hope that it will be good!
But it won't.
